2008: A new school year begins at Saint Basil Academy!

September 1st, 2008 by admin

St Basil’s Academy of Classical Studies is looking forward to its third year of providing quality academics with an Orthodox Christian foundation to elementary and middle school age children. We are so thankful to begin this year in our permanent school building which has proven to be a great improvement over our previous rented space.

This year will also bring some staff changes as Headmaster Matthew Barnett will move to a non-teaching role. Katherine Thompson will be head teacher, and Sue Zwang will be the teacher’s aide.

In addition we are fortunate to have Elizabeth Philo teaching history for the younger students,Theodora Chantel helping with keyboarding and Phys.Ed., Jason Laiblin helping with Phys. Ed. and Matthew Harrington teaching Literature. As always, without our many other volunteers teaching art, music, science, supplementary history projects, lunch duty helpers, math tutors and cleaners, St Basil’s could not provide the education we do.

We welcome back:

  • Clare Reese – 8th grade
  • Elena Janis – 7th grade
  • John Reese – 6th grade
  • Nicholas Chantel – 5th grade
  • Gustavo Reese – 4th grade
  • Ephraimia Reese – 4th grade
  • Peter Janis – 3rd grade
  • Cecelia Chantel – 3rd grade
  • Anysia Chantel – 2nd grade
  • Danny Reese – 2nd grade
  • Katie Janis – 2nd grade
  • Selah Kone – 2nd grade
  • Silas Brannan – 2nd grade
We are very excited to welcome new students to St Basil’s!

Nick Russell, 12 years old, will join the middle school class. Nick, along with his parents Skip and Mary Russell, reside in Dixie. Also joining St Basil’s are Isaac Jacobson, 9 years old, and Alex Jacobson, 7 years old. They also live in Dixie with their grandparents, Ralph and Jackie Jacobson. We look forward to the families joining the St Basil’s community. Welcome to Nick, Isaac and Alex!

We are so grateful for the dedication and prayers of all of you in support of the children and staff of Saint Basil’s.
