Glory to God!
We will soon be breaking ground at our new school site. For a time the site will have heavy equipment, materials and trenches that are not safe to wander around. The builder has asked that everyone not specifically authorized to be there, remain off the site during the construction. We will schedule times for visiting and let everyone know when those are.
Please forgive me, but this must be said (one of our sub-contractors mentioned this is a frequent problem on this type of project). When and if you are on the site, please do not instruct the worker’s. They may not know who is in authority and may make changes based on your casual remarks. Our budget is tight and everything has been carefully considered. The ONLY people who will be giving them input are the General Contractor or myself. If you are concerned about anything, contact Justin (president of the board) or me (project coordinator).
For those who are asked to come on the site and/or work on the project, please wear appropriate gear - no open toed shoes, safety glasses when using tools, gloves if you are handling cleaners or caustics, masks if you need dust protection and so on.
During the early part of April (if all goes according to schedule), we know we will be needing your help. The first three items will be work that needs to be done by us before the contractor can finish his work. If you volunteer for the Painting, do not volunteer for the either of the carpentry items as they will probably be done simultaneously. Among the volunteers, we will need team leaders - so please let me know if you are willing to lead. Whether the work is done in the evenings and week-ends or during the week will be up to each team. You can respond by e-mail or by signing-up on the sheet on the Basil Board in the St Silouan Church fellowship hall.
- Painting: Need 5 people, 3 with prior painting skills. Apart from painting, we can teach a bit. There will be masking, filling and cleaning of brushes and so on.Installation of cabinetry and countertop: Need 1 or 2 people with carpentry skills.
- Installation of Porch Soffitt: Need 2 people with carpentry skills and ability to hold heavy materials atop a ladder.
- Building clean-up: Need 6 people. Some scraping of spilled paint, putty, and mud. May require handling of solvents where clean-up of adhesives is concerned. Mopping, window-washing and wiping off of window sills. Possibly a trip to the dump.
- Concrete Parking Pad for Handicap Parking: Need 2 people with prior experience in concrete. Constructing and setting forms, mixing and pouring (using a rented mixer), tamping and brush-coating.
- Parking Lot: Need 4 people with strong backs. More gravel and leveling. We will order in a load of gravel or borrow a dump truck. This must be done after the handicap pad is complete.
We are planning a multi-purpose room which, among other things, will be a lunchroom. We are in need of two small microwaves and one refrigerator. If you have extras or spot some between now and mid-April, please contact me.
St Basil pray to God for us,
Elizabeth
